MaPrimeRénov’: no grant for windows alone
Since 1 September 2026, replacing windows or French doors is no longer funded by the MaPrimeRénov’ per-item route in mainland France. It can still be funded within a whole-house renovation, where it counts as one of the two required insulation measures, for a home rated E, F or G that improves by at least two energy classes. See our guide MaPrimeRénov’ in 2026.
Other possible support
- Energy-saving certificates (CEE): energy suppliers may still fund some insulation work; compare offers before signing the quote.
- 5.5% VAT: for energy-improvement work in a home completed more than two years ago, if the windows meet the performance criteria.
- Interest-free eco-loan and local grants from your region or municipality.
For most support, the contractor must be RGE-certified.
Which performance to aim for
Two values appear on the technical data sheets:
- Uw: how well the whole window insulates. The lower, the better.
- Sw: the share of solar heat passing through the window, useful in winter.
Support generally requires Uw ≤ 1.3 W/m².K and Sw ≥ 0.3, or Uw ≤ 1.7 W/m².K and Sw ≥ 0.36. Ask the installer for these values.
Planning formalities
If the replacement changes the exterior appearance (material, colour, glazing layout), a prior works declaration (déclaration préalable) at the town hall is generally required. In a co-owned building, façade windows are often governed by the building rules: check before ordering.
Questions to ask before signing
- What are the Uw and Sw values of the windows offered?
- Is the contractor RGE-certified? Does the quote state 5.5% VAT?
- Are removal of old windows, fitting and finishing included?
- Are air inlets planned for ventilation?
- What guarantees cover the products and the installation?
Ouvertis works in Île-de-France and north-eastern France: see its introduction.

- No MaPrimeRénov’ for windows alone since 1 September 2026.
- Remaining: whole-house renovation, CEE grants, 5.5% VAT, eco-loan and local grants.
- Check Uw and Sw, and whether a planning declaration is needed.
