Renovation support in Belgium: where do things stand in 2026?

All three regions have overhauled their renovation support. Wallonia has moved from grants to loans, Brussels has suspended its grants and Flanders now reserves them for lower incomes.

Wallonia: Rénopack and Rénoprêt replace the grants

The temporary “primes Habitation” scheme closed on 30 September 2026. Complete applications filed by that date, including the final invoice, are still processed under the old rules. Since 1 October 2026, the Region funds whole-house renovation projects through loans.

Which homes?

  • a home rated G or F must reach at least energy label D;
  • a home rated E must reach at least label C.

An exemption is possible if the target label cannot be reached, provided this is justified. A home audit less than one year old is required; its cost can be included in the loan.

Two loans

Rénopack is an interest-free loan with part written off, reserved for income categories C1 to C3. The applicant must hold a property right over the home and live in it within 24 months; people owning several homes are excluded. Rénoprêt is an interest-free or preferential-rate loan with no write-off, open in particular to category C4, landlords and co-ownership associations.

Funding can reach €75,000 for a house and €60,000 per flat (private parts). Loans are granted by the Société wallonne du Crédit social (SWCS) and the Fonds du Logement de Wallonie (FLW).

Brussels: Renolution grants are suspended

According to the Brussels-Capital Region, no decision has been taken on any Renolution grants for 2025 or 2026. No application can therefore be filed for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026. Homegrade, the Brussels advice centre, still offers free help to prepare a project.

Flanders: Mijn VerbouwPremie narrowed

Since 1 March 2026, owner-occupiers in the two highest income categories (1 and 2) can only claim Mijn VerbouwPremie for a heat pump or heat-pump water heater. Nothing changes for categories 3 and 4. The “Mijn EPC-labelpremie” has been abolished. The Mijn VerbouwLening loan remains available, notably for categories 2 to 4 and some landlords.

Across Belgium: 6% VAT

For a home at least 10 years old used mainly as a private dwelling, renovation work can be invoiced at 6% VAT instead of 21%, provided the contractor invoices the end customer directly.

  • Flanders: grants reserved for income categories 3 and 4, except heat pumps.
  • Everywhere: 6% VAT for renovating a home at least 10 years old.
